What is Ideal Weight?

Ideal weight is the weight range at which you are statistically least likely to develop weight-related health issues. Multiple formulas exist because 'ideal' depends on body frame, muscle mass, and individual factors.

This calculator uses four well-known formulas and also shows the BMI-based healthy weight range for your height.

Formula

Devine Formula (male): 50 + 2.3 × (height in inches − 60) Robinson Formula (male): 52 + 1.9 × (height in inches − 60) Miller Formula (male): 56.2 + 1.41 × (height in inches − 60) BMI Range: 18.5–24.9 × height(m)²

How to use this Ideal Weight Calculator?

1. Enter your height in cm. 2. See ideal weight estimates from four different formulas. 3. The BMI range shows the healthy weight range for your height.

Frequently asked questions

Which formula is most accurate?
No single formula is perfect. The BMI range (18.5-24.9) is the most widely used reference. Use the average of all formulas as a rough guide.
Why do the formulas give different answers?
Each formula was developed using different population samples. Devine is most common in medicine, Robinson was developed for drug dosing.
Does ideal weight change with age?
Slightly. As you age, some additional weight is considered acceptable. The BMI 'healthy' range for seniors may extend to 27.
